Terrence Bray is an internationally recognised multi award winning designer. He creates bespoke garments for men and women as well as a seasonal ready to wear range that is available at select boutiques and online.
His success is based in a firm and distinctive design philosophy – to strive for the best quality and design possible at a particular moment. Terrence Bray’s attitude derives from classical concepts placed in a contemporary context; the eternal heart viewed through the personal and challenging and unexpected. It honours beauty, humour and passion and, by nature, adapts to its environment and constantly evolves.
Having recently moved studio and combined showroom forces with Sara Trickett of Saint Verde botanicals, Bray’s DFF 2016 collection builds on the natural synergy between their brands and work ethos. This extends beyond just rare succulents to encompass a deep look at the meditative art of planting and placing these wonderfully precise and geometric works of natural art; the repetition in shape and juxtaposition of defensive hardness with the softness of their delicate beauty. It exhibits a strong tie to an oriental sensibility and the arts of origami and kirigami.
Born in Durban, Bray graduated from Durban University of Technology in 1995 and launched his label under his own name in 1998. He makes time to mentor young designers in various programmes and assists in different programmes that uplift local crafters.
Terrence Bray would like to thank the following sponsors for their support with the 2016 DFF: Hopewell Footwear, Gelvenor Fabric and Ebony Optical.
