Sheilla Shelembe describes herself as fun, crazy, loving, hardworking and stubborn and her design style as simple, polished, classy and luxurious.
She designs ladies wear under the SheillaShelembe label. After graduating from the Durban University of Technology and Linea Academy in 2017, she is going all out to make a name for herself.
She says that, for her, design is an everyday thing and her designs are inspired by what happens in her life as well as by music and nature. Her favourite design so far is a short full lace romper with a lower front and back neckline, lace appliqué flowers on the waist and a scalloped edge at the bottom.
Her style reflects her personal taste and she does sometimes wear her own creations. Her favourite designer is Terrence Bray for his classical, yet modern creations.
She would most like to dress local celebrity, Minnie Dlamini, because she has a beautiful body and personality and would enjoy something polished and clean. Internationally, she would like to dress the Duchess of Cambridge.
Latest trends that are influencing her work include micro pleated texture on dresses and skirts for spring. She believes this adds a silhouette while also remaining unstructured and drapes beautifully any body type. Sequins and romantic ruffles also feature in her work and she says her range is based on the pyjama dressing trend and is based on luxe silk fabric.
Being part of the DFF is my biggest achievement so far.
