Paige Marie Garbutt, the creative, passionate, dedicated, innovative and adventurous designer behind the ladies wear label Paige-Marie sees herself as a successful designer with an established brand that employs and teaches skills to many South Africans in the not too distant future.
She studied at the Durban University of Technology, graduating with a National Diploma in 2015. She is currently studying towards a BTech Fashion Design.
Inspired by my grandmother, a professional seamstress, Paige started designing and making clothes for her dolls at age five and never looked back. Sustainability, craftsmanship and uniqueness are the three principles which echo throughout her style.
Her greatest achievement so far and the designs that she believes were her best were her graduating DUT fashion girls wear range in 2015 – particularly the coats which where appliquéd with needle felting.
She says that Lunar is her favourite local brand/designer as they are leaders in natural / responsible fashion. She also admires their minimalist and elegant designs. The local celebrity that she would most like to dress is Terry Pheto as she is successful, elegant and hardworking. Emma Watson is the international celebrity that Paige would most like to dress as she has a good sense of fashion yet is driven by her moral compass of equality, feminism and sustainability.
The increased use of detail, traditional craft and handwork have influenced her current designs and opened up her eyes to the endless possibilities of creativity.
