Cllr Nomvuzo ShabalalaThe Fashion Industry has become an integral part of the country and the City’s economy and serves as an important element in government’s efforts to revive the clothing and textile sector.

The Durban Fashion Fair (DFF) programme which is one of the leading fashion development programmes amongst the few globally is one of the City’s success initiatives to drive the growth of the sector. It focuses on capacitating, empowering and encouraging the culture of entrepreneurship as well as facilitating access to the markets whilst providing a platform for emerging designers to showcase their collections in the same platform with international and established designers.

Since its inception four years ago as a stand-alone programme, the DFF has grown tremendously amd has produced young talented fashion designers and models through its internship and mentorship programmes.

We remain committed to developing the fashion and textile sectors, which is highlighted by our investment of over R20 million in the DFF and related programmes in the past years. We want to see this industry grow, especially in our Municipality as it is a major economic contributor to our country’s gross domestic product (GPD). Our drive is to ensure Durban becomes the best place in the world to incubate and grow fashion as a business and job creator,

Thank you
